Sunday Supper: Rubadub - How Many Times (single) + FOS Re-Up

Late Sunday Evening Supper tonight. This week's been crazy for me, four long days in a row. When you work in retail, 'tis the season... Y'all know what it is. Anyways, no excuses, with a day off, I slept in and then spent the afternoon with the family getting pictures with Santa for our notorious Christmas cards... and by the family, I mean my wife, our two dogs, and me, LOL. These pictures are great, the best so far! I can't wait to see the final product. Anyways, back to the music. I have so much new material still waiting in the wings, and I have so many new contributors offering up even more Sunday Supper music, and then there's all these dead links I keep getting asked for re-ups on, so today I got some new and some old.

First off my dude Daniel Alfaro donates a DJ Rubadub single from 1996 titled How Many Times (Can A Black Man Die?). The title track and b-side, "Gangstas Don't Retire," come from his Mind of a Gangsta LP. Nothing special here really, this is typical Rubadub, pimpalicious gangtastic street story rhymes over a funky funky studio band style beat. The single also features a bonus track from my favorite Grapetree artist Lil' Raskull. Good stuff.

Next on deck is a couple re-ups from Freedom of Soul. I have had multiple request for both FOS albums, so I thought I would drop them for ya this week. My favorite of the two is definitely The 2nd Comin'. I could listen to that record all day, but Caught in a Land of Time is a masterpiece all of it's own. While The 2nd Comin' seems to be a pure hip hop album from front to back, Caught in a Land of Time is caught somewhere between hip hop and house music. It's that god awful (no Sunday pun intended) hip house. It's like they were trying to be, or being asked to be, the Christian answer to C&C Music Factory and that early hippie-fide De La Soul. Either way it's a nice album. And on the original post to this, I was even turned on to the fact that there is a vinyl version of Caught in a Land of Time floating around, which makes it even better. Rumors of classic gospel hip hop on wax gets my crate diggin' blood flowing! Anyways, enjoy these two classics Freedom of Soul joints.

From Da Inbox: FB Records Presents: November!

This came in the email this afternoon. FB Records presents: November!, LOL. Maybe I'm the only one that thinks that's funny. But I think it would be better titled, November Features or FB Records November Exclusives or something like that... it just sounds like they're presenting us the month of November. Anyways, all kidding aside, Family Business Records has some decent stuff here: "Understand" is the highlight, a solid hip hop track, while "Family Business" is the typical auto-tuned down south semi-tongue twist head nodder and "Hey Girl (Ghost Mix)" is an electro inspired r&b club jam. Check out the email and downloads below.

In the deck...

Oh no, here's what I've been listening too.

Coyo - Radioactive Project/Brooklyn Theory

Mic Blaque posted this over at his Thinking Outside the Box blog. I don't know much about Coyo, but Radioactive is a nice piece of work. Give it a listen, you won't be disappointed. Download here.

Kasi RocsWell - Evolutionary

This is a great album. I keep coming back to it. Solid production, thoughtful rhymes, it's just refreshing to hear people make music like this. Download here.

Explosions in the Sky - The Earth is not a Cold Dead Place

And now for something completely different. I found this at Defeated Sounds. Call it post rock, or shoe gazer, or just plain noise. I love this record. Droning, moody, atmospheric guitar music. Fits perfectly in the cool, gray, rainy November weather. Download here.
